The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the squads for the Sri Lanka tour as well as the Australia tour. India will take on Sri Lanka in the 3 T20Is between January 5 and 10 while the 3-match ODI series against Australia will be played between January 14 and 19. 

Fully-fit Jasprit Bumrah will feature India’s pace assault in the limited-overs arrangement against Sri Lanka (T20Is) and Australia (ODIs) in January one year from now while vice-captain Rohit Sharma was on Monday rested from the arrangement versus the neighbor.

“Jasprit Bumrah is back in both the teams for Sri Lanka and Australia and we have rested Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami for the Sri Lanka T20Is. Shikhar Dhawan also comes back and Sanju Samson will be the back-up opener in T20Is,” chairman of selectors MSK Prasad told reporters at an informal gathering after squad selection.

Bumrah comes in for Deepak Chahar, who has now been sidelined until April 2020 due to a stress fracture to his lower back. Kedar Jadhav, who scored 40, 16* and 9 in the games against West Indies, has retained his place in the squad.

“(As for) Hardik, we will have a look at him in the third week of January,” Prasad said, indicating that the all-rounder could only be available in the second half of New Zealand tour.

Indian Squad for Sri Lanka T20Is: Virat Kohli (c), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer,Manish Pandey, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant (wk), Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav,Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar.

While Dhawan takes Rohit’s spot in the T20I squad, Bumrah walks in, in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who missed the West Indies ODIs because of a groin injury and will be absent from the two upcoming series as well. 

After securing a series win against Windies in the limited-overs format, the Men In Blue will kick-off the proceedings in Guwahati against Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, starting from January 5. The second and the third T20Is will be played on January 7 and 10 respectively.
